More info about Chamonix

Chamonix is quite simply a magical place. Lift your eyes upwards from anywhere in the Chamonix Valley and you can’t miss the mythical peaks of Mont Blanc. Sitting at the foot of Mont Blanc, Chamonix town has become a veritable Mecca for winter and summer mountain sports enthusiasts.

Skiing and snowboarding are the main draws to the Valley in winter, whilst in the summer it’s all about walking, hiking, mountaineering, paragliding and mountain biking. But even if you’ve no aspirations to conquer Mont Blanc or ski down the steepest, powder-filled slopes, you will still fall in love with this most famous corner of the French Alps, which exudes a certain charm, is steeped in history and boasting one of the most impressive backdrops of any town you’ll visit,

Why Chamonix for our off-piste ski clinics and private lessons?

Chamonix has the reputation for being the world capital of off-piste and freeride skiing. There are 6 extensive ski areas offering a huge amount of easy to acess off-piste and backcountry skiing routes. Chamonix is good for all levels of off-piste skiers, from powder novice to the expert rider. With some of the highest altitude skiing in Europe providing a superb snow record. Chamonix the ideal place for us to run our off-piste, all-mountain and backcountry ski courses and clinics.

Each of the Chamonix ski areas offer a different type of terrain. Le Brévent and La Flégère are great for couloirs and bowl skiing for all levels of off-piste skier. The variety of terrain on offer makes this a great area for our ski courses.

Further up the Chamonix valley Les Grands Montets is a very big mountain with undoubtedly some of the best skiing in the world .The Grands Montets provides high, north facing slopes and very easy to access off piste skiing. This is where you oftern see famous freeriders hang out.  Glaciers on the upper sections lead down to wide open bowl skiing with steeps and couloirs. The tree skiing and in-to valley couloirs are also great for expert skiers. At the Grands Montets we can often ski 10000 vertical meters per day on our expert backcountry ski courses. A great lift system opens up 3 sides to this amazing ski mountain.

Le Tour at the high end of the Chamonix valley is great for all levels on- and off-piste. The front side is easy terrain for beginner off piste skiers. This is an ideal place for us to take intermediate level ski courses on the first couple of days, with the back side of the mountain offering some very nice terrain for more advanced and expert backcountry skiing.

The Aiguile du Midi lift takes skiers and alpinists from Chamonix town to an impressive altitude of 3842 meters. All the runs are glacial off-piste making the skiing more serious. A high mountain guide is advised for this.

Les Houches is situated as at the lower end of the Chamonix valley and offers more gentle terrain than the rest of the valley. There are many tree-lined pistes and some off piste skiing to be found in our secret spots. Les Houches is also where the mens world cup combined event is held.  The "Kandahar" see's the best in the world race in downhill and slalom over a 2 day event. Les Houches is also a great place to ski when the weather is bad as the slopes are well shelterd by pine trees.

Chamonix is just 1 hour drive from Geneva airport. Many companies fly into Geneva airport from most major UK airports.
