The size your pictures need to be is 50x50 pixels, either a jpeg, gif or png.
If you try to upload a larger image, the system will try to resize it, but the best thing is to design an icon at exactly 50x50 pixels.
If you try to upload an image file that is too large, the system may timeout during the attempted upload. This is normal, but try to reduce the size of your picture to within 100KB or so before uploading should fix this problem.
