Rotation

Would one of the AMP instructors be able to give me an excersise to work on to improve the rotation element of my turns? Something I can focus on on piste to help me out in the off-piste would be ideal.

Thanks!

What you could do to improve

What you could do to improve your rotational skills is an exercise where you choose a smooth, not too challenging run. Then, as you make your turns think about your rotational movement and start to make this a very constant movement so it feels like your skis are always pivoting in one direction or another. Try to make the rotational movement slow but continuous. This will give longer smooth shaped turns. Then speed up the movement for shorter turns still keeping that movement fluid and continuous.

The effect of this is like a constant brushing off of speed. As we rotate, our skis scrape the snow and hence speed is scrubbed off. There is also an obvious scraping noise as the skis are pivoted on the snow. Another way to do the exercise is to listen to the sound and try to keep a constant scraping noise that is not on and off too much.

Good luck with your exercise and hope you enjoy it. Mark Gear AMP head coach.

Thanks Mark, I tried that and

Thanks Mark, I tried that and was getting my edges over and into the next turn much quicker.

Then I had more control when I needed more rotation to check my speed a bit.

Great advice :)
